I have been building websites for 20 years.

It started as a side interest while studying photography at university. Afterwards, I worked as a bike courier and then photographer’s assistant in London for a number of years, while doing web development part-time.

When moving to Berlin in 2005, I finally made the switch to focus fully on web development and design.

In the last decade and a half the industry has seen a lot of changes. Browsers, standardisation, new content management systems, mobiles and tablets, cloud computing, responsive design. Google’s dominance, for better or worse, has had a major influence on many aspects of web development.

It is a fast-moving field and many of the projects and services built online today would have been hard to imagine 15 years ago.

When I started building websites, most of it was plain HTML. Then I started learning PHP and getting involved with content management systems.

I have worked with many over the years – Mambo, Joomla!, eZ Publish, TYPO3, Drupal, osCommerce, Zen Cart and Magento to name but a few.

While many of these have different purposes (content, e-commerce etc.), the one that has stood above the rest for me is WordPress.

I have always found it easy to work with, easy to introduce to clients and for it to be a very flexible system. While mainly working on small to medium sized projects, I find that it covers a very wide range of applications.

Feel free to get in touch to discuss any new projects you might have – I am always excited to talk ideas!

Projects

I love working with clients to develop great projects, but sometimes you just need to build something for yourself or in collaboration with other people.

Currently I am involved with the following projects:

Tailorist

Tailorist

An exciting e-commerce project, selling made-to-measure dress shirts. The site is using Magento as a platform and has a custom built shirt designer, where customers can select their preferred fabric, fit, components and add their measurements.

I am a co-founder of Tailorist and it has been both a challenging and fun project.

Our webshop was launched at the end of 2015.

First Cellars

First Cellars

Through Julian Kommunikation, I became a technical partner with this Shanghai-based wine startup.

As with Tailorist, this site uses Magento as a platform and has a number of custom functions. We have also been designing campaign banners and other visuals, as well as landing pages.

Apart from collaborative projects, I also have some personal side-projects:

Karl Sandoval photography

Photography

Before working with web development, I studied photography at university. Not long after finishing my degree, I changed fields and have been building websites full-time since about 2005.

My personal photography website is slowly taking shape, over time I hope to showcase a number of different projects and ideas.
